Custom Error Pages
Understand what a Custom Error Page is, what function does it have and how to make one.
If a particular page on a website doesn't load for some reason or in case a link is not working, the visitor shall see an error page with a generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, which could make the visitor leave the website. A solution in cases like this is a feature offered by some website hosting companies - the option to set your own custom-made error pages that will have the same layout as your website and which may contain any images or text you want dependent upon the particular error. There are 4 well-known errors that may occur and they involve the following so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the web server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you are supposed to log in to see some page, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you don't have an authorization to see a certain page; and 404, if a link which you have clicked leads to a file which doesn't exist. In each of these cases, site visitors will be able to see your personalized content as opposed to a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting
You will be able to set up personalized error pages for each of your sites easily when you use any of our
Linux shared hosting. This can be done from the Hosted Domains part of the Hepsia CP, provided with all accounts and once you go there, you can set your customized pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You need to upload the files to your account in advance and enter the links to them through the process. This function can be de-activated whenever you want and the options you'll be able to select from are a generic page from our system or a default Apache web server page. Tailor-made error pages may be set with an .htaccess file as well. The file should be put in the domain or subdomain folder and it should include some system code and links to the pages. If you aren't tech-savvy, you can copy the entire content needed for the file from our Help section.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you host your websites in a
semi-dedicated server account from us, you may set tailor-made error pages for any of them with ease via our in-house developed Hepsia hosting CP. With a few clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you can modify the default setting from a system page to a custom one for any of the 4 error types. All you should do is provide a link to every file you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If necessary, you will be able to revert this change anytime and in exactly the same way. If you prefer, you may use an .htaccess file as well. It should be created/uploaded in the domain or subdomain folder associated with the website whose error pages you want to alter and the content for this type of file can be found in our Help article on this matter.
